Welcome All Nevada Physical Education and Health Professionals,
I am humbled by the opportunity to serve as the SHAPE-NV state president this next year. There have been so many great leaders and educators in the past. I have spent the last twenty three years working as a Physical Education teacher, athletic director, and coach. My philosophy has always been that each person is special and deserves the best physical experience with emphasis on health related fitness and activities that are fun. I am enthusiastic about some of the new programs that we are considering for the next year.
Last year, our board worked to get the organization's name changed, our new constitution in order, and website up and ready to use. With the hard work of those on the board, I am pleased to announce our membership drive. It is exciting to have our new SHAPENV.com website up and working.
The focus this year for SHAPE-NV is to bring more technology and training that will help increase activity throughout the state. The hope is that more professionals will join our organization and support our national organization's initiative, to bring 50 Million Strong by 2029. On our website is the membership and workshops that we are providing this year. Some of the workshops include technologies such as pedometers and heart rate monitors, with the ability to collect archival data by using new skills, knowledge, and confidence to enjoy meaningful physical activity.
This is so important because of the new evaluation procedures being instituted throughout the state. We will provide training about the Comprehensive School Physical Activity Program (CSPAP) and how to implement and help wellness coordinators with adding more activities in our schools. I am so thrilled about inviting you to our CSPAP trainings that will be provided by our own trained staff.
As a member of SHAPE-NV, we encourage you to take advantage of the pedometer workshops in the North and the Heart Rate monitors in the South. You will find dates and times on the website. This year you can find information about the Teacher of the Year (TOY) with applications and dates too.
Lastly, SHAPE-NV is in need of committed professionals to join and help provide support and training. This is an all call for anyone who wants to get involved. We need you! You can contact any member of the board or me right here.
I look forward the opportunity we have to come together to share and learn more about our profession at these workshops.
Yours in Activity,
Dr. Judy Lynn Peterson
SHAPE NV President
